Advanced handsets offer computing, organizing,
documenting, multimedia, and communication
applications that require fast, robust, and
inexpensive wireless connectivity that is
best serviced by Wireless LAN. The most common
method of bringing in WLAN functionality into
a handset is through the integration of a
self-contained WLAN module offering a low
load on the host processor. The extremely
small and ultra-low power RS9110-N-11-01 module
is an ideal solution for this application
– it integrates a single stream 802.11n
MAC/BBP – the RS9110, an RF transceiver
and front-end, and firmware implementing all
the WLAN protocol and power management functionality
required for standards compliant Wi-Fi connectivity.
The host application processor runs a WLAN
network driver and provides WLAN configuration
functionality to the user. A reference design
based on RS9110 is Wi-Fi certified for single
stream 802.11n Draft 2.0, WPA2, WMM, WMM-PS,
WPS, and Voice-Personal, making this solution
one of the most advanced in the market today.
